Lovely article, it has been getting great reviews on twitter
Sadly I am too young to remember channel 4 and James Richardson in their hay day.

Wish I'd have seen those days too.

great days....is partly why I am so in love with Italian football!

I watched the first ever game in September 1992 on C4 which was samp 3 lazio 3, it is the reason I became a Samp fan, one game and I was hooked.

It's crazy to think there were 3m UK viewers who watched that, C4 would have been loving it. Especially considering Gazza wasn't even playing.

I have great memories of watching the calcio in the late 90's on C4 when I was at university. I used to find it impossible to tear myself away from the sunday afternoon game when I was supposed to be doing my uni work!

Like Forza Sampdoria I watched that first game and was hooked, but I waited for a few weeks before deciding who to support. Then I saw Fiorentina and the die was cast. I knew after ten minutes they were the team for me.
Yes, I agree James Richardson made the show, but let's not underestimate the contribution made by Peter Brackley, by far the best football commentator I've ever heard (and I've been around a long, long time).

Couldn't agree more, although I haven't been around quite as long (can't say that about many of you!!). He has the priceless quality of knowing when to shut up.

I could have sworn that I started a thread about Gazza/Lazio. I'm not sure what happened to it! Wink Haha!

Top article, used to love the Sat AM show, then the Sunday games.

James Richardson is a legend. His interviews were ace + sitting at a cafe table each week with all the sports papers and loads of ice creams!

Unfortunately Serie A is a shadow of what is was but will hopefully pick up again soon.
